Bhure Lal twice entered the Gid Kho jungle in Guna district on the night of 14/15 July 1970 and shot dead the dacoit Nahar Singh.
Twice into the Gid Kho Jungle
On the night of 14/15 July 1970, word reached Bhure Lal that the gang of Nahar Singh, a dacoit of Guna district, was hiding in the Gid Kho jungle. He went in to check. At 2200 hours he reported to the police, who arranged an ambush.
Time passed, and the information needed confirming. Bhure Lal went back into the jungle alone, carrying his M.L. gun, and moved close to the gang.
Nahar Singh saw him and fired. Bhure Lal took cover and fired back, and Nahar Singh fell dead. When a second armed dacoit tried to run, Bhure Lal chased him down and held him until the police party arrived and made the arrest.

The Gazette records one arrest.
The notification, No. 3-Pres./72, is dated 19 January 1972. It gives 14 July 1970 as the effective date of the award.
The citation
On the night of the 14/15th July, 1970, on receiving information that the gang of Nahar Singh, a notorious dacoit of District Guna, was hiding in the jungle of Gid Kho, Shri Bhure Lal personally verified it by going to the jungle at great risk to his life. At 2200 hours, he informed the Police who arranged an ambush. As some time had elapsed, it became necessary to have further confirmation about the presence of the gang. Shri Bhure Lal once again went into the jungle alone with his M.L. gun in the dead of night. Disregarding his personal safety, he went very close to the gang of dacoits. On seeing him, dacoit Nahar Singh fired at him. Shri Bhure Lal was so alert and swift that not only did he take cover in time, but also fired back at the dacoit. His fire was so accurate that the dacoit dropped dead. When another armed dacoit tried to run away, Shri Bhure Lal chased him and pounced upon him. In the meantime, the police party also reached the spot and arrested the other dacoit.
Shri Bhure Lal's gallant action in fighting against armed dacoits is a shining example of conspicuous gallantry and courage.
